I like it: Platypus Technologies is a liquid crystal-based biological sensor company in Madison, WI; they're looking for a Ph.D. chemist or chemical engineer to work on gas sensor technology. Love the name.
Think of yourself as the beloved lab coordinator: Harvard's engineering school is looking for a M.S./Ph.D. analytical chemist to run their analytical labs; experience with GC/AA desired.
Staff positions galore: The University of Virginia's Center for Catalytic Hydrocarbon Functionalization desires a Ph.D. chemist for a scientific program administrator. Looks like the pay ranges from not great to not bad.
A broader look: Monster, Careerbuilder, Indeed and USAjobs.gov show (respectively) 297, 690, 3,460 and 7 positions for the search term "chemist." DoD must have pulled all those procurement positions -- that's quite a drop for the ol' Feddle Gubmint. They're usually in the 70s or so.

There's a hiring freeze in my federal agency. (Enacted when it became clear what Congress is planning for our budget.)
ReplyDeletePlus, the new fiscal year just started for us; that's when programs get re-assessed. It's probably the same throughout the federal system.
